El radar AN/TPS-43M, encuadrado en la operación NATO Enhanced Air Policing-Radar, ha alcanzado las 15 000 horas de servicio operativo en Rumanía.
Este radar de largo alcance del Ejército del Aire y del Espacio fue desplegado en octubre de 2022 a orillas del mar Negro, en la localidad rumana de Schitu, con el objetivo de contribuir a la vigilancia aérea en el flanco este de la OTAN.
Los datos obtenidos por el radar son utilizados por el Sistema Integrado de Defensa Aérea de la OTAN, a través del Control and Reporting Centre de la localidad rumana de Moara Vlasiei.
A pesar de sus años de servicio, de la climatología adversa de la zona y de que las unidades que proporcionan el mantenimiento exhaustivo están en España, este radar se ha demostrado como un sistema fiable y robusto.
Este hito de operatividad es fruto, por un lado, del esfuerzo y de la profesionalidad de todos los componentes del Destacamento Aéreo Táctico (DAT) ‘Tigru’ a lo largo de estos casi dos años de misión. Por otro lado, del apoyo de muchas unidades en territorio nacional, que han contribuido eficazmente al mantenimiento de un sistema de armas que, por primera vez, ha sido proyectado fuera de nuestras fronteras.
Operación ‘Persistent Effort’
El radar AN/TPS-43M desplegado en Rumanía forma parte de la operación ‘Persistent Effort’, donde también se encuadra la Unidad de Defensa Antiaérea NASAMS en Letonia, la batería Patriot en Turquía y, por último, los destacamentos aéreos que realizan misiones de Policía Aérea, como el ‘Paznic’, que actualmente está ubicado en Rumanía.
Con todo, la participación española en la protección del flanco este del territorio aliado es muestra del compromiso adquirido por España con la Alianza y un ejemplo más de la solidaridad con nuestros aliados, con los que compartimos los valores que sustentan y protegen la democracia, la libertad y la seguridad mundial.
